Taylor braced for tough FA Youth Cup test

Gareth Taylor has warned that last weekend’s emphatic 5-0 Under 18 Premier League Cup win over Swansea will have no bearing on next month’s FA Youth Cup rematch between the sides.

The young Blues – who are defending U18 PL Cup holders - ran out convincing winners in our final group game to seal our place in the quarter-finals.

The two sides will now lock horns again next month at the Academy Stadium when they meet in a keenly-anticipated FA Youth Cup third round tie.

But with both City - who were runners-up in last season's FA Youth Cup - and Swansea expected to make significant changes in personnel for that game, Taylor expects the rematch to be a new proposition altogether.

“I think that the FA Youth Cup game will be a completely different scenario,” Taylor warned.

“Swansea have a very good academy and they are trying to achieve what we are and to push their younger players up.

“So, I’m expecting there to be big changes when we come together in the FA Youth Cup next month but it will be a challenge that we are looking forward to.”

Taylor’s young charges produced an excellent all-round display in overcoming the young Swans to march into the Under 18 Premier League Cup quarter-finals.

The Cup holders showcased their determination to retain the crown with a performance that brought a special tribute from their manager.

“The way we played in the second half was my favourite half of football from the season,” Taylor revealed.

“They were really at it in every department – they policed it themselves and when you have that from the players, it’s great."

Meanwhile Taylor's side, who are also top of the Under 18 Premier League north section, resume league action this Saturday at home to Derby County.

Kick-off at the CFA is 12pm.
