Training: City set for Shakhtar showdown

PORTU-GEEZERS: Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo in conversation

Manchester City opened their training doors to the media ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar.

A point at the Etihad guarantees our place in the knockout stages for a seventh consecutive season, and all but confirms a first-placed finish in Group C in the process.

But our opponents, who are seemingly locked in a two-horse race with Dinamo Zagreb for second spot, will be keen to upset the apple cart and boost their own qualifying prospects.

This sets up an intriguing Matchday five encounter, but we take on the Ukrainian champions without all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero, who Pep Guardiola admitted will be out of action for a few weeks with a thigh injury in a pre-game press conference.

However, the boss did provide a welcome fitness boost in the shape of Rodri and David Silva.

The midfielders, who were forced off with cramp in last Saturday's 2-1 win over Chelsea, took part in the session and are in contention to feature in tomorrow’s tie under the Etihad lights.
